Attorney Avital Sompolinsky presently serves as the Deputy Attorney General of the State of Israel as the head of the Constitutional Law department. This department deals with diverse fields at the core of constitutional issues, human rights, social rights, dilemmas and sensitive balances regarding the identity of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic society. The department’s main role is to present these issues to all government ministries, both in terms of consulting and in terms of legislation, including the initiative and transportation of bills and the formation of positions regarding private law proposals and government law proposals. Other areas that the department deals with are: Basic Laws and Human Rights, Regime and Government Law, Elections and Party Law, State Criticism, Freedom of Information and Privacy, Emergency Law, Social Rights, Rights for people with disabilities, Health Law, Employment Law, laws that deal with education and welfare, family children, guardianship, legal kashrut and religious and civil courts and legislation that takes place in the Judea and Samaria area.
Sompolinsky began her distinguished career in the Ministry of Justice in 2001 and prior to her present position, was the appointed representative of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) responsible for representing it in all legal proceedings.
Sompolinsky holds both an LLM and LLB from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Sompolinsky was born in Israel in 1978 to Prof. Haim and Elisheva Sompolinsky, the second of five children. She presently resides in Nes Harim; is married to Attorney Itai Feiglin and the proud mother of five.
